MISSION STATEMENT

Vela Justice Lawyers have a long and successful history of representing individuals injured or killed in catastrophic accidents, and in representing local school districts and governmental entities in litigating their construction defect claims. Today, along with several other partner law firms, Vela Justice continues its mission of providing clients with access to justice and currently receiving clients solely on a contingency fee bases in these matters.

Beginning in 1988, Filemon Vela began a career focused on ensuring justice for clients on a contingency fee basis. His wealth of experience included representing clients in workplace accidents, automobile and truck accidents, and in a wide variety of products liability claims. Mr. Vela also built a reputation for his contingency fee representation of local governmental entities and school districts in their claims for construction defects. In 2012, Mr. Vela was elected to the United States House of Representatives.

CONGRESS EXPERIENCE

For 10 years, Congressman Vela represented the 34th District of Texas in the United States House of Representatives. During this period, Mr. Vela assisted thousands of people through his constituent services, actively promoted and helped fund hundreds of projects important to governmental stakeholders in the 34th District of Texas, and built a strong bipartisan network of relationships across the United States.

ROSE VELA

FORMER TRIAL AND APPELLATE JUDGE

As a practicing attorney, Rose worked side by side with two of our nation’s preeminent trial lawyers, Guy Allison and Darrell Barger as their appellate attorney in complex civil litigation. This experience prepared her well for ascendancy to the trial bench at the age of 34 and later as a justice on the Texas 13th Court of Appeals. Rose has overseen thousands of cases in her  career as a practitioner and a judge.

WHITE HOUSE EXPERIENCE

In 2021, Rose was appointed by President Joe Biden to serve as his Administration’s Director of the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships. The 61-year-old nonpartisan program is one of the most prestigious and competitive in the Country, and it gives talented young Americans first-hand experience in the process of federal policy and governance by serving one year alongside members of the Administration. In this role, Rose obtained a top secret, TS-SCI government clearance and interacted with high-level, top Cabinet officials during the entire term of Biden’s tenure in office. Rose left the White House in 2025.

NEW MEXICO WINTER
STORM URI CLASS ACTION

Vela Justice, along with the Gallagher Law Firm, John Wertheim Law, Ortiz and Zamora and the Bandas Law firm are currently representing a putative class of plaintiffs including most commercial and residential customers of the New Mexico Gas Company. In 2021 when Winter Storm Uri approached New Mexico, the defendant Kinder Morgan initiated a course of conduct which ultimately cost citizens of New Mexico 100 Million Dollars. In this action, Vela Justice and its co-counsel are seeking to recover these losses.

MULTIPLAN ANTITRUST
LITIGATION

Vela Justice PLLC is currently engaged in representing hospital systems and health care providers in claims against Multiplan, now known as Claritev. The plaintiffs in this litigation have alleged, with the support of the United States Department of Justice, that Multiplan conspired with the nation’s largest health insurers engaged in a price fixing scheme to intentionally underpay health care providers in their claims for out of network reimbursements.
